Children and youth culture
The ministry’s arts and culture policy includes a focus on children and young people. The ministry is of the opinion that all children and young people should have the possibility to experience high quality arts and culture. Moreover, they should have the possibility to participate in creative processes.
Listaleypurin is an initiative that ensures arts and culture for children within the school system. It builds on the Norwegian initiative Den kulturelle skolesekken and has been in force since 2008. The Ministry, the municipalities and the Nordic House cooperate on the project. You can find more information on Listaleypin on the website of the Nordic House, http://www.nlh.fo/Default.aspx?pageid=9034 (in Faroese).
Music theory and instrument teaching constitute main parts in the cultural options for children and young people. The music school system develops and coordinates the music teaching across the country. You can find more information on the music school system here www.musikkskulin.fo (in Faroese).
Another important part of the Faroese cultural policy is to provide funds for the work of children and youth. Part of the surplus of the tipping money goes to this purpose.
