Seventeen Ukrainian refugee children between the ages of 8 and 14 are now attending schools in Tórshavn, Sandur and Tvøroyri.
“I am very proud of the immense work the whole education system has done to create a structured environment for Ukrainian children. It was a completely new challenge to take refugee children into Faroese schools. We have had to learn along the way, and I am very pleased to see how well it has been going, says Djóni Nolsøe Joensen, Minister of Children and Education.
112 refugees from Ukraine
Prior to Russia’s illegal war on Ukraine, the Faroe Islands had never had a refugee programme. There are presently 112 refugees from Ukraine living in the Faroe Islands.
