Temporary testing upon arrival available next week

On Monday June 15 to Friday June 19 there will be a temporary testing facility set up at Vagar Airport and at the Port of Torshavn making it possible for all travellers to be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival in the Faroe Islands.

Wednesday it was announced that all visitors who reside overseas and travel to the Faroe Islands will be required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test that has been taken within the last five days of departure. Because of the short notice, testing will be available for all passengers arriving at Vagar Airport or at The Port of Tórshavn from monday to friday next week. The tests are free of charge for any passenger that might need it.

Travellers can expect delays upon arrival to the Faroe Islands. All passengers are recommended to self-quarantine at home or at their planned accommodation while awaiting the result of the test. It can take up to two days before the results are available.

Returning ticket or proof of residence

Faroese residents are not required to be tested prior to returning. Instead, Faroese residents are required to show either a return ticket or proof of residence in the Faroe Islands. Proof of residence can be obtained from The Environmental Agency. It is very important that travellers have all the necessary documentation at hand and travellers will be required to show this documentation at Vagar Airport or at The Port of Tórshavn.

Proof of a negative test result is not required for children younger than 12 years old. However, parents or travel companions must be able to provide documentation of the children’s age by showing their passports.

Employment contract

Foreign nationals travelling to the Faroe Islands for work purposes are also exempt from the requirement of showing documentation of a negative test result upon arrival. However, they must provide a proof of employment from an employer and travellers will be required to show this documentation at Vagar Airport or at The Port of Tórshavn.

It is of utmost importance that all travellers to the Faroe Islands take appropriate precautions while travelling. After arrival, particular care must be taken and the public health guidelines must be followed closely.
