Statement by Foreign Minister Høgni Hoydal

Today marks one year since Russia launched its armed attack against Ukraine. Russia has caused a brutal and devastating conflict in blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. Reports strongly suggest that war crimes have been committed for which the aggressor must be held accountable.

The Faroe Islands stand firmly with Ukraine in the fight for its democracy and territorial integrity. One year on the bravery, resilience, and determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their sovereignty continues to be a source of inspiration.

The invasion of Ukraine is an affront to European security, NATO, and the international rules-based order The Faroe Islands are fully committed to continue working with allies and like-minded partners to uphold sanctions against Russia and to support Ukraine with assistance and aid.
