Russian import ban does not apply to the Faroe Islands

Faroese companies can export their products to the Russian Federation as usual.

The Foreign Service of the Faroese Prime Minister’s Office received an informal indication yesterday that the Faroe Islands would not be subject to the Russian import ban.

Officials from the Foreign Service received a confirmation of this at a meeting at the Russian Embassy in Copenhagen this morning.

Since the Russian import ban was announced last Thursday, the Foreign Service has been in communication with Russian authorities in order to ensure that the trade measures imposed against the EU do not apply to the Faroe Islands.

It is expected that a written confirmation will be provided to the Faroese authorities later this week, once the necessary administrative procedures in Moscow have been completed.
