Prime Minister Meets With the Fisheries Committee of the British Parliament

Last week, Prime Minister Jóannes Eidesgaard was welcomed by the Fisheries Committee of the British Parliament. The Honourable Austin Mitchell, MP, committee chairman, had invited the Prime Minister to confer on the Faroese fishing industry. Several representatives from the political parties were present at the meeting.

The members of Parliament present took special interest in the Faroese Fishing Days Scheme. The Prime Minister explained the functioning of the system and stated that, in general, we are content with our fisheries management, even though we continually monitor its functioning in order to ensure its steady improvement.

The MPs explained that they felt there was great discontent in the British Fisheries Committee with the common EU fisheries policy. Even though the MPs seemed to agree that in many ways the EU-policy was not working satisfactorily, the outlook for changing the current state of affairs appeared problematic.
