The annual POLITICO list of 28 people to look out for in the coming year was announced at a special gala event in Brussels on Monday 3 December. Guðrið Højgaard, director of Visit Faroe Islands accepted the honour on behalf of her entire team, who have been implementing an innovative and dynamic strategy for promoting the Faroe Islands as a tourist destination, including with their award-winning Sheep View and Faroe Islands Translate campaigns.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Poul Michelsen welcomed the news: “This is a well-deserved recognition for Guðrið herself and indeed for all those working to develop the Faroese tourist industry. Tourism in the Faroe Islands is in an exciting period of growth and is helping to diversify and strengthen our small economy. The Minister applauded POLITICO’s broad and inclusive approach to identifying successes and trends across Europe, and for looking to the Faroe Islands for inspiration. “I cannot say we are surprised, but we are of course very proud.”
