This week, the Faroese Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade hosted a delegation of nearly 40 parliamentarians from NATO member countries.
At a briefing at Hotel Føroyar, Committee Chair Bjarni Hammer welcomed the group and emphasised the broad political support in the Faroe Islands for NATO, as well as the importance of cooperation and unity. Minister of Justice Bjarni Kárason Petersen, who also oversees preparedness, presented key priorities in the area. Both civil servants and representatives from the University of the Faroe Islands also gave short presentations on Faroese priorities in security policy, crisis management, and the activities of the Joint Arctic Command.
The visit included a tour of the historic NATO site at Sornfelli and an overview of plans for a new radar installation. Delegates also visited the Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy, where they tested advanced helicopter and flight simulators.
