Free movement of goods between the Faroes and Iceland

On Friday 2 September 2005, the Faroese Prime Minister Jóannes Eidesgaard and the Icelandic Minister of Foreign Affairs, Davið Oddsson signed an agreement on the free movement of goods between the two countries.

The agreement on the free movement of goods puts into immediate effect one of the  major areas of cooperation which form the basis of the new landmark agreement on economic cooperation between the Faroes and Iceland, signed in Hoyvík, Faroes on Wednesday 31 August 2005. The new framework agreement replaces the former bilateral trade agreement between the Faroes and Iceland from 1992 and extends the scope of cooperation between the two countries to the free movement of all goods, services, capital and persons.
