Faroese Foreign Minister Highlights Local Engagement and EU Partnership at EU Arctic Forum

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Sirið Stenberg, participated in the opening session of the EU Arctic Forum today, where she underlined the importance of ensuring that Arctic communities are directly engaged in shaping the region’s future.

“The security environment is changing. What has long been a region defined by stability and cooperation now faces new challenges. The Faroe Islands remain committed to preserving peace and stability in close cooperation with our neighbours.

Minister Stenberg also highlighted the European Union as one of the Faroe Islands’ most important international partners. She welcomed the EU’s increased focus on Arctic affairs and emphasized the strategic value of strengthening cooperation.

“The Faroe Islands are strongly committed to deepening our partnership with the EU. Trade, fisheries cooperation, and research and education form the foundation of our relationship, and there is great potential to expand into new areas,” she stated.

On the sidelines of the EU Arctic Forum, Minister Stenberg met with EU Commissioner for fisheries and oceans, Costas Kadis, to discuss ongoing cooperation and future opportunities for closer collaboration between the Faroe Islands and the European Union.
