EU Commission President to visit the Faroe Islands

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to visit the Faroe Islands on 14 March, marking the first visit by a head of the EU Commission to the Faroe Islands. Hosted by PM Johannesen, the main purpose of the visit is  to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Faroe Islands and the European Union on enhanced cooperation. This agreement, long in the making, aims to establish a framework for the partnership, focusing on areas including sustainability and climate change.

PM Johannesen emphasizes the agreement’s role in fostering the development of Faroe Islands-EU relations.

After my last visit in Brussels, I was optimistic that we would soon see tangible results. The signing of the MoU is an important step towards further developing and diversifying  cooperation between the Faroe Islands and the EU. I am also pleased that the EU Commission President is using this opportunity to visit the Faroe Islands. I believe that this will contribute to increasing awareness in both the Faroe Islands and the EU of the importance of our  cooperation.
