The Faroe Islands mission in London will from now on also cover the Republic of Ireland. This is a truly historic moment for Faroese-Irish relations, as it is the first time ever that a Faroese diplomat has been accredited to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Faroe Islands are in a process of intensifying our foreign relations and broadening the scope of cooperative partners. The Faroese Government has missions in Brussels, Copenhagen and London. While the London mission has so far only covered the area of the United Kingdom, the mission in London will from now on also cover the Republic of Ireland.

Historical evidence suggests that the Faroes were first inhabited by migrants from Ireland more than twelve centuries ago. From this historical and geographic perspective and including reasons concerning political, economic and cultural issues, Ireland is an interesting and important neighbour for the Faroes.
