Constitutional status of the Faroe Islands allows separate membership in the World Trade Organization
In a much awaited decision, three Supreme Court justices concluded that the constitutional status of the Faroe Islands allows a separate Faroese membership in the World Trade Organization.
This decision aligns with the view of the Government of the Faroe Islands, which regards separate membership of the World Trade Organization as a key stone in the further economic development of the Faroe Islands.
Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen stated:
“I am pleased that the Supreme Court justices have concluded that separate membership of the Faroe Islands is consistent with its constitutional status.”
