Co-operation with international organisations

In the previous year, the Faroes has co-operated with several international organisations with the aim of taking part in projects by aiding financially and, as much as possible, by providing professional and technical support. The Faroese Government co-operates currently with Mercy Corps, the World Bank, CARE Peru, and ICEIDA. Also the Faroese Government is endeavouring to participate in the work of the UN, especially the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) network regarding projects involving developing island communities.

Relief work
In addition to development co-operation, the Faroes has donated a good deal of money toward urgent relief, including relief efforts in connection with the tsunami, the famine in Niger, the earthquakes in Pakistan and in Indonesia. To facilitate the aid transfer, the policy has been to donate money through active relief organisations, such as the Red Cross, Barnabati (a local Faroese organisation with international connections working for the betterment of children), the World Food Programme and Mercy Corps.
