Active role in international development co-operation

The Faroes wish to play a more active role in reducing poverty in the world and to that end there is a desire to develop our internal competencies so that we – now and in the future – can take on more international development work. About a year ago, therefore, the Government began to undertake international development co-operation as a special area of competency within the administration.

Initially, the Government set aside about three million DKK for this purpose. This is not much, compared with what our neighbouring countries provide, but the Government has chosen to start cautiously in order to develop our competency gradually and with focus, before larger amounts are appropriated for international development purposes.
