Diplomacy

London is a global city that is home to many embassies, diplomatic missions and international organisations. The Representation engages in many relations and political ties with countries from all over the world and represents the Faroes to international organisations based in London.

The Head of Representation is the permanent Faroese representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is the United Nations’ specialised agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

The Faroes is a member of the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) a regional fisheries management organisation that administers fisheries in international waters in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean and has its headquarter in London.

The Faroes also have a membership in the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO) which manages the conservation, restoration, enhancement and the rationally manage of Atlantic salmon through international cooperation. NASCO’s headquarter is located in Edinburgh.

Scotland and the Scottish isles

Since its formation the Representation has had a special focus on managing the excellent relations between the Faroe Islands and their immediate neighbours to the south: Scotland and the Scottish isles.

In recent years, the possibilities for collaboration between the Faroes and Scotland have expanded, and the Representation plays a key role in establishing and developing projects that involve cooperation in industry, trade and research.

The Representation is closely involved in the political collaboration between the Faroe Islands and Shetland, the Orkneys and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Every other year we take part in the North Atlantic Island Summits.
